“Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.”
Letting go is never easy, but sometimes necessary. Here are few things to help you when to say goodbye to your old car.
1. When the cost of repairing is higher than the cost of the car.
Having problem time and again with your car ? Does your car spend more time in the repair shop than you driving it ? are you having to spend fortunes to repair your car ? Then yes its time to get rid of the money pithole of a car. Technically when you upgrade your car with newer parts or fix whats broken it should add value to your car. But when it doesn’t seem to the case with your car its time to let it go. Know the value of your car in the market and calculate if its worth fixing it.
2. When the tech is outdated
Every year car manufacturers come with new upgrades with any model whatsoever to keep buyers interested. In the period of give or take 5 years your car can be generations apart from the newer version. For e.g. bluetooth connectivity, navigation system , hands free phone connectivity, rear view camera, parking sensors etc can be lacking in the same model of the older version of the car. If you are a tech savvy and want nifty little upgrades you know it’s time to get rid of your old car
3. When your car eats fuel for breakfast lunch dinner and for midnight snack
Lets face it, as your car gets older it’s not going to be as efficient in anyway. But the one thing that can drain your pocket is the fuel. As the car gets older the less milage it gives out. When compared that to a technologically new car the difference will be vast. That difference looks better in your bank account.
4. Changes in your lifestyle
Did you get married or have kids? Has your family size increased in any other way ? did you just get promoted and being seen in an old junk too embarrassing? It’s inevitable to have changes in life. You must take into account if the car you are driving suits to your needs.
Even though safety is last in this list, it is never last when buying a car. Safety features like airbags, ABS, crumple zone, speed limiter etc didn’t exist 15 years from today. Yet we see cars without these features out in the roads. If your car is missing the basic safety feature. You know it’s time.
